The Power and Politics of LanguageIt is often the media which is accredited for seasoning public attitude toward political and social affairs. However, to what extent is the media itself conditioned and socialized by political bureaucracy? Take a look at this political cartoon as it succinctly illustrates the power of socio-linguistics. Inflammatory rhetoric used by the powers that be, such as "terrorist," often has a slew of synonyms which are used by media and public sources. (Keep in mind top-down models.)
