Bill Richardson bows out of commerce secretary job Due to a pending investigation of dealings between a company and the New Mexico government, New Mexico Governor, Bill Richardson, is withdrawing from his nomination as Obama's next commerce secretary. Richardson denies any wrongdoing, and told reporters Sunday, that he feels, "Given the gravity of the economic situation the nation is facing, I could not in good conscience ask the President-elect and his Administration to delay for one day the important work that needs to be done."
