Refrigerated Beach in Dubai
A new resort in Dubai, catering to the "top people," is considering refrigerating its beach by cooling the sand with underground pipelines and generating simulated gusts of winds for its tourists. With the temperature in Dubai reaching higher than 100 degrees, the resort is going all out to ensure that its guests can comfortably walk across the beach. The resort is already getting heat from the environmentalists, who claim that it is the mistakes of inefficient buildings like these that contribute to global warming. Although I was immediately impressed with the innovative idea, I can't help but think how this is just another sign of the times, altering nature to suit out conveniences, in a pretty invasive way. Interesting, though.
