It's Immigration Awareness Month

Get some quick facts on immigration in honor of Immigration Awareness Month, and learn how you can take action for comprehensive immigration reform today!

Check out today's quote of the day from Michael Bloomberg...

A local San Antonio woman and former St. Mary’s student is facing deportation. Benita Veliz’ world got turned upside down one afternoon when she was pulled over and couldn’t show a driver’s license. Veliz was brought to the US from Mexcio when she was only eight years old, grew up here, contributed to her school and community, and although she is undocumented, calls the US her home. Veliz’ case has made national news, has gained overwhelming support for her rights, and, with the recent introduction of the Act in the last few weeks in Congress, brought the DREAM Act back to table.

We will begin sharing inspiring quotes and progressive thoughts on issues, such as immigration.  Share your thoughts with, or if you have a favorite, share it here!

What is the DREAM Act:
The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act is bipartisan legislation which will help young people who were brought to the United States years ago as undocumented immigrant children, and who have since grown up here, stayed in school, and kept out of trouble, an opportunity to enlist in the military or go to college and have a path to citizenship which they otherwise would not have without this legislation.  Citizenship would be awarded after a mandatory two years in higher education or military service.
