Mexico, Cuba, and Venezuela are countries where political and social policy is most rapidly evolving...

As reported by, Latina Lista:

One of the best ways to broaden someone's horizons, a.k.a. expose them to situations outside their comfort zones, is through travel.

It is one of the reasons why students who have experienced life in another country are better prepared to view the world with an open mind. Yet, in these times, traveling may be too cost prohibitive for most students to afford — unless they win the "Destino: Latinoamericano" contest sponsored by Continental Airlines and Adelante! Since 2004, the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) has been sending qualified Hispanic college students to Washington, DC for a six-week internship through the Ford Motor Company CHLI Leadership Program. "The Ford Motor Company CHLI Leadership Program is probably one of the best experiences I have had since coming to the U.S., and it has opened a number of doors for me," said Roberto Castillo, a Miami resident of Cuban and Venezuelan decent and a 2008 Ford CHLI Intern with the Office of Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25). "Through the contacts that I established on the program, I now have a job that I really enjoy in Miami, an internship opportunity for this winter in Washington, and the possibility of a full time job after I graduate."

Here are a few reminders for upcoming internships.  For more information view our recently posted blog:

It's time in '09 - Reform on the horizon

Check out the December issue of the Student Voices monthly online newsletter, “SV Top 5,” and see if your content was featured this month.  As the year draws to a close, December was a chance to look back on the top news stories of 2008, and begin to look forward to the goals of 2009.

With Obama’s administration getting ready to settle in, and a promise for change, the view of comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) is certainly on the horizon.  Proponents for CIR are continuing to build with recent cabinet appointments, and more support for immigrant rights and appreciation for their contributions to society.  It’s time in ’09!
